What the current browser engine actually verifies
- JPEGA synthetic Clean & Write fixture removed private XMP, added selected rights and preserved the encoded scan-payload SHA-256.
- PNGSafe Clean removed supported metadata chunks while the combined IDAT/fdAT image-data payload produced the same SHA-256.
- WebPSafe Clean removed supported EXIF/XMP structures while preserving the encoded VP8, VP8L, ALPH and animation payload scope.
These are synthetic feature-level conformance checks, not a claim about every generator or file. Review the methodology, dated CSV results and support matrix before relying on a format boundary.

What metadata cleaning cannot do
